Coming February 2025 - PEERS for Preschoolers online class for Parents
What is Peers for Preschoolers
PEERS for Preschoolers is an evidence based social skills program out of UCLA designed to teach children between 4 to 6 years of age how to make and keep friends. Parents attend 16 weekly group sessions for 90 minutes per week over Zoom. Parents will be taught how to coach their child on targeted social skills related to friendship development through daily lessons, role-play videos and puppet shows for children. Parents are provided resources to practice skills during weekly homework assignments and are given feedback on their social coaching.
Please note: Classes are conducted over Zoom and group instruction is provided in English. Regular attendance is imperative and social coach participation is required.**
How Peers is Helping Parents
PEERS for Preschoolers is a targeted program designed to enhance social skills among young children, primarily those with Autism Spectrum Disorder. However, its structured approach and focus on fundamental social interactions make it potentially beneficial for children with ADHD, anxiety, communication disorders, and other socio-emotional challenges. Through engaging activities like puppet shows and interactive games, the program teaches essential behaviors such as greeting, sharing, and managing emotions. Parents are actively involved, learning to reinforce these skills through guided practice and receiving feedback to improve their coaching methods. This comprehensive strategy not only supports children in developing vital social skills but also empowers parents to foster their child’s ability to navigate social complexities effectively.
