PEERS: Social Skills Training for the Modern Era

PEERS, The Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills, is an evidence-based social skills training program, for young adults age 18-30 who are interested in making and keeping friends and / or developing romantic relationships. Developed by Dr. Elizabeth Laugeson at UCLA, this program enjoys global recognition, implemented in over 35 countries.
Research has shown that young adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) as well as ADHD, anxiety, depression, and socio-emotional problems have made positive progress from the PEERS program.
How is the PEERS Program Structured?

Young adults attend weekly group sessions. Young adults are taught social skills through instructional lessons and role play demonstrations and practice the skills during group socialization activities. Social Coaches are taught how to support young adults in making and keeping friends as well as exploring romantic relationships if interested.
Note: Social coaches are only required to attend the last 30 minutes of the initial session to meet the instructor and other parents/social coaches. Social coaches will receive information on how to support their young adult throughout the program in this session.
