Fast ForWord & Cogmed
“We are all celebrating here today! I was amazed to see Malachi’s ability to focus when he did his final RPI assessment and could see quite obviously how much the FFW program has helped him. Thank-you so much for facilitating this for him. It has been a big confidence booster and probably life-changing for him academically. Thanks so much!” ~ Charity, parent
Fast ForWord is helping students learn to read – but it is so much more than that. Students’ lives are changed forever as they now can participate in their education and in their lives in ways they couldn’t before. ~ Nancy, teacher and High School parent
“Oh MY GOODNESS!!!! I cannot believe it! I haven’t read with my child since we started the Fast ForWord in Sept. Last night she wanted to sit with me and read! I said, ok, thinking I would be doing all the reading. Well, she picked out a Mr. Putter and Tabby book (about Grade 2 level reader) and proceeded to tell me SHE would be reading it! I was shocked. She read about half the book with minimal minimal help!!! Say WHAT?” ~ Michelle, mother of a Kindergarten student
From an adult’s perspective, while I was engaged with the Cogmed training program I was also at college taking courses. The Cogmed training allowed me to retain the information much easier than before. My mind was able to sit, listen and participate in activities without tiring out, and forgetting what I learned that and each day.
During the training, I loved to hear the voice telling me when I was doing well with the exercises. The coaching support was very gentle, and effective to encourage me during some pretty busy times.
Post training, I’ve found myself calmer, can remember things and retain the learning. I would highly recommend this training for any adult who gets overwhelmed, or just forgets things in general.
I’d like to personally thank Kristi for her assistance in getting me on the Cogmed training. It has truly changed my life in a very positive way. ~ Jacqueline B, adult college student
PEERS For Teens
I enrolled my child in PEERS for teens and wasn’t sure what the outcome would be. We’ve had so many discussions with her to try to help her communicate with her peers and nothing sank in. The program has given her increased confidence when speaking with people when we are out. She could barely order her food at a restaurant so it’s great to see her open up. I think as time goes on and she practices the tools she learned it will only get better and better. Very glad I stumbled across this program.
PEERS is a worthwhile program for both parent and child. Our daughter benefited from learning with others her age and PEERS covers all the foundations of being social with others in a safe environment and allowed her to see she wasn't alone. As parents, it magnified the social skills and graces that we take for granted and allowed us to reinforce the messages at home and in social situations with friends and family in the real world. Quite literally, putting the learning into practice. I highly recommend this program to families.
My teen now has a better understanding of social expectations and ways to handle certain situations.
My teen can now navigate certain social situations with more confidence as he has been given a lot of strategies. He is more confident speaking to people in general.
My teen gained significant confidence in social settings to talk to new people, carry on conversations & try to arrange out-of-school meet ups.
My teen has tools now to use, and would feel more confident in approaching others for conversations.
My teen learned some new skills and about trading information which is important. My teen thinks they know it all, but in reality, when it comes time to speak to people they don't know it all, it's very difficult.
My teen is an outgoing kid who already makes plans with friends independently, that part didn't resonate with him; however, he came away with a better understanding of how people are unique in their struggles but the same in that we all struggle. He learned to look more closely at trying to understand a different perspective and making allowances for differing personal development.
My teen gained real life experience by going through the actual act of making the appointment, finding something, anything, to speak about with the fellow teen. Rather than simply discussing what should or should not happen this provided real life examples which were extremely valuable.
Thank you for teaching us these extremely useful social skills. It has really been helpful not just for my teen, but for me as well.
Executive Function Coaching
The detailed feedback we got from each session was extremely helpful as was the final report. Our child received the support, guidance, strategies and tools needed from her coach. We loved the fact that homework was not an addition to what was already on our daughter's plate, but homework was rather in the form of implementing skills and strategies to her help her with her existing school work.
We have been impressed with the professionalism and personal support we have received from Kate at West Coast Centre for Learning. We were referred to West Coast Centre for Learning for executive function coaching and it has been AWESOME!
We appreciated talking to Kristi before even before getting started, she matched us with a coach that was a great fit for our son. The Discovery session was enlightening as we completed the EF Assessment and in collaboration we came up with a coaching plan for the next 10 sessions.
