West Coast Centre for Learning offers diverse winter programs tailored to children, teens, and young adults. Each program is designed to support unique learning needs, from social skills to reading and cognitive development. Here’s a guide to help you find the best fit.

Social Skills and Emotional Development

  • For Children:

Our Secret Agent Society (SAS) program offers younger children a fun, spy-themed way to learn social skills like emotional regulation and communication. The program provides a safe environment where kids can practice interactions and build resilience. Starting in February, PEERS for Preschoolers will also help young children explore empathy, sharing, and turn-taking. Additionally, Equine Facilitated Wellness (EFW) pairs children with horses to build empathy, self-regulation, and confidence through guided animal interactions.

  • For Teens and Young Adults:

The PEERS for Teens and Young Adults program provides social skills training with a focus on conversation skills, friendship-building, and social boundaries. Teens also learn about responsible social media use. In EFW sessions, teens build self-confidence and resilience through reflective interactions with horses, developing trust and learning valuable emotional skills.

Reading and Cognitive Development

  • For Children:

The Fast ForWord Reading Program strengthens reading and cognitive skills for children, including those with ADHD or dyslexia. Through engaging activities, children improve reading fluency, comprehension, and memory, setting a strong foundation for future learning.

  • For Teens and Young Adults:

For older students, Cognitive Training focuses on enhancing memory, processing speed, and comprehension. These skills are crucial for academic and professional success, helping teens focus, retain information, and excel in their studies.
